Peter Singer  and the Drowning Child

In the previous theory of knowledge class, our teacher asked us to play a game online which is connected to Ethics. The game was called "Peter Singer and the Drowning Child." In this game, the player is asked numerous questions regarding the hypothetical situation of a child drowning and what the player would do if they were nearby the event. Depending on what they answer, will lead to other questions which results in the final answer. For example, if the player presses that they still have the moral obligation of saving the child, then that will lead to a distinct set of questions rather than if they answered they no longer have the obligation.

Because of this, it is evident that such a game has numerous connections with the areas of knowledge such as ethics, religious knowledge system and human sciences; ethics is clearly the primary connection since the player's answers depend on their moral obligation hence being connected to ethics (morals and ethics are tied together as ethics branches off of the concept of morality). Likewise, religious knowledge systems play a strong role in the player's choices to some extent their faith will have an impact on their answers as the religion's ideologies will be tied to moralities thus returning to the primary connection. Finally, as this is a hypothetical situation to analyse what the player would do, psychology is clearly involved to comprehend why the player chose their answers and what extent it comes from their conscious.

Lastly, the game also connects to the ways of knowing of imagination, emotion and reasoning; as we are not truly experiencing the situation, the only factor we can utilize for our decisions is imagination hence being a significant way of knowing as to what we would possibly respond in such a situation. Furthermore, emotion is also tied to this because seeing another person's life in risk clearly causes some kind of reaction within us which is related to our emotions. For example, if I were to see a kid drowning, I would be consumed by anxiety and fear because I wouldn't know what to do and I would panic as to what the outcome of the situation would be. Finally, reasoning connects to the situation at hand because we have to decide our choices through deciding what is right or wrong to help the child in need.
