Is History Invented or Waiting to be Discovered?

For the past two classes, we have been discussing the topic of history and if it has been invented or waiting to be discovered.

Some have given arguments that it has been invented since history tends to be very biased which adds on to the original story, changing its plot as a whole. Furthermore, one of my classmates made a connection with a video from the most famous Brazilian newspaper: Folha de São Paulo. In the video, the narrator throws positive impacts a leader has made for his country and the photo in the video begins zooming out. Nonetheless, as the video proceeds in zooming out of the picture of the leader, the narrator continues specifying the duty of the leader until the picture reveals the leader is Hitler. With this, the narrator says, “lots of lies reveal the bigger truth”.

This video reminded me of a video I had watched during the summer in which two leaders were compared; one leader was given only positive feedback through his completions in his reign while we only received criticism about the other leader. Clearly, this caused us to develop an opinion on both leaders and we preferred the first leader throughout the video. However, the video concluded through revealing the leaders: the first one was also Hitler, while the second one was an american president of the 20th century.

Picture of the infamous leader, Hitler, mentioned in the text and how the small details which are ignored can affect the bigger picture.

Furthermore, yesterday I was scrolling through facebook and found that my sister had uploaded a link regarding history: Skeletons could rewrite Roman History.  The link talks about the discovery of two chinese corpses in Rome which could change what we know about roman history hence emphasizing the question, “is history invented or waiting to be discovered?” since skeletons which had no correlation to the Roman era were localized in England hence modifying our knowledge on history

Video talking about the bias in the media which is the method in which information is transmitted to us, changing our perspective and insight on the topics given.

Video discussing the bias in history itself in more details!
