Building a tower in TOK

When researching images of communication on google, I merely found pictures of people speaking to one another to transition an idea. In other words, there was no other form of communication except for language. This connects to one of our class since we constructed a tower in solely 20 minutes without speaking to the other members of the group. The materials we were permitted to utilize were:

1. 3 sheets of paper

2. A small amount of tape

3. One pair of scissors

4. 10 paper clips

Because language was not allowed, the task clearly turned out to be more difficult than expected. However, my group and I did manage to find other ways to communicate through gestures for each specific material needed throughout the task therefore we grew stronger as a group and in the end, we won the competition.

The construction of the tower without language connects to the Theory of Knowledge diagram and its importance in our daily lives; though we utilize language to pass our ideas to others in order for there to be an understanding, our group found other ways to communicate and resolve the situation at hand: building a tower. We would utilize other methods of communicating such as specific gestures for each action we wanted to complete. For example, when we required the other person to cut the piece of paper, we would form a pair of scissors utilizing our two fingers. In other words, regardless of a language existing or not, society would invent another form of communication for all to be on the same agreement through using ways of knowing such as memory (once some form of communication is created, people would have recall it) and reasoning to connect actions to a form of communication.

This is one of the images I found when researching "communication".
